Youth Strings I (Violin, Viola, Cello) | Ages 12-18 | Tuesdays 4:30-5:30PM

The intermediate string is for students who already have an understanding of basic music reading, instrument assembly and maintenance, correct playing position and sound tone production. Instruction offers a continued focus on the refinement of tone quality, technique, aural skills, and music literacy.

Students and their families are encouraged to provide their own instrument. This class will perform at the end of the session.

  • Two or more years of experience (or discretion of teacher)
  • Major Scales: C, G, D – one octave, up and down, for all instruments
    • G – two octaves for violin
    • C – two octaves for viola & cello
  • Understanding of whole, half, quarter, eighth and dotted half rhythms
  • Understanding of 4/4, 2/4, and 3/4 time signatures
  • Basic sight-reading
  • Private lessons encouraged, but not required
