Youth Musicianship I | Ages 12-18 | Thursdays 4:30-5:30

Students in Beginning Musicianship will be introduced to concepts and skills necessary for performing music within an ensemble, while building foundations for musical expression. The overarching focus of the course will take place within two main areas of musical training and development: Ear training and Music

Theory: Each week will build toward gaining the skill
and knowledge which contribute to music students’ development.
Theory
-Reading notes of the staff in treble and bass clefs
-Rhythm studies.
Meter, call and response, dictation. Understanding note values
-Key signatures.
-Beginning chord theory and structure.

Ear Training
- Interval recognition (i.e.: 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc) Using popular songs as
reference.
- chord recognition (Major v. Minor).
