Beginning Woodwinds students should know at least 5 or 6 notes on their instrument by heart, and be able to read them on musical staff notation. They should also have a basic understanding of rhythm including quarter, eighth, half, and whole notes. Beginning students must also know how to properly assemble, disassemble and maintain their instrument unassisted.
