KONYIFAFA

Preview of a new choreography by Ghanaian/Anlo Ewe Master Choreographer, Dancer, and Drummer CK Ladzekpo and Brazilian Capoeira Master Ubirajara “Bira” Almeida (Mestre Acordeon), KONYIFAFA welds together rare cultural traditions from Ghana, West Africa and Salvador Bahia, Brazil to create a mythic marketplace where a ritual mourning for centuries of lost freedoms evolves into a determination for healing, a playful celebration of every day life.
Primary funding for the commission and production of KONYIFAFA was provided by the Creative Work Fund and the East Bay Fund for Artists at the East Bay Community Foundation.
