Summer is an exciting time at the Center with a great deal of activity.
The 5 week summer intensive for our flagship program, Young Artist Diploma Program, runs all day from June 24-July 26. Diploma students participate in a large breadth of performing arts, crossing disciplines. All students experience classes in West African and Mexican music and dance, ballet, hip hop, modern dance, film, classical, jazz, and steel pan ensembles. The theater curriculum has continued to evolve to include new training for advanced students in stage combat, advanced physical theater, playwriting, musical theater, technical production and, for all advanced students, college application support.
For younger students we offer a 6 week Introductory Series of dance, music, and theater classes. These offerings include ballet, hip hop, introductory classes in traditional Mexican and West African performance, theater, children’s chorus, and the Brazilian art of capoeira. These classes are designed to give young students their first experiences of the performing arts. Financial aid is available.
The Center’s dance and music Resident Companies continue a full rehearsal schedule during the summer in preparation for performances throughout the year in the community and special events.
Private instruction and lessons are available throughout the summer. This includes, flute, clarinet, shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), recorder, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, drums, African drums, and traditional Mexican instruments.
Additional special Masterclasses, workshops, and performances will be offered including jazz jams, spoken word, and guest appearances by teaching artists of the San Francisco Opera, and many other nationally and internationally recognized artists. Please check the website for updates of the special events.

WELCOME TO OUR CENTER
We have returned to our Center, the Winters Building, 339 11th St., Richmond, CA!
As some of you already know, while up to 1,750 students are involved annually with our Center, nearly 52,000 children and young adults have passed through our doors over the last 40 years. In July 2009 we began a complete renovation of our old building, which features two new theaters and greater instructional space.
