WEST AFRICAN MUSIC AND DANCE ENSEMBLE
Join us for a program of hip hop and ballet fusion in newly choreographed works with Iron Triangle Urban Ballet. Iron Triangle Theater will present March by Alberto Adellach, an essay into experimental political theater. The program concludes with the West African Music and Dance Ensemble in a dynamic celebration of life.

This program will explore new and traditional repertoire of the Steel Pan, one of the most dynamic instruments originating from the New World. Voice, the primal instrument, will be presented in its many facets by the Voices of Reason. The evening ends with a dynamic set of standards and modern tunes with the Richmond Jazz Collective.

SON DE LA TIERRA
The evening opens with rarely performed ceremonial music of the Mien people of Laos. This is followed by by the Richmond Chamber Ensemble exploring the work of Igor Stravinsky. Son de la Tierra will end the program with a selection of Mexican dances and music in the Son Jarocho tradition.

YOUTH SPEAKS TEEN POETRY SLAM PRELIMS
For the first time this year, Youth Speaks will be hosting a preliminary slam in Richmond in collaboration with East Bay Center for the Performing Arts!
The prelims will be held on Saturday, April 14th at East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (339 11th St, Richmond)- the first bout is from 12-2 and the second is from 2-4. The event will be hosted by Richmond emcee/spoken word artist Donte Clark! It's free to the public.

IN SEARCH OF MY FATHER...WALKIN' TALKIN' BILL HAWKINS
The Bay Area's own stage, screen, TV actor W. ALLEN TAYLOR performs phenomenal one-man play "In Search of My Father...Walkin' Talkin' Bill Hawkins" at East Bay Center. The award-winning autobiographical solo show was written by W. Allen Taylor, with original direction by Ellen Sebastian Chang. "In Search of My Father..." recalls Taylor's adventurous search for his absent father Bill Hawkins, the first black disc jockey in Cleveland, Ohio. Taylor brings extraordinary acting talents to his six weekend performances, while R&B, blues, jazz and gospel musical interludes celebrate the cultural legacy of black radio. The 90-minute show follows the inspiring and heartwarming true story of Taylor's journey of self-discovery and destiny as he performs a range of richly defined characters.

John Vergin – baritone, Denise VanLeuven – pianist
East Bay Center is proud to present a performance of Schubert's "Die Winterreise". This demanding and seldom-performed song-cycle will be sung by baritone John Vergin, with accompaniment by pianist, Denise VanLeuven. Using the poetry of Wilhelm Muller, Schubert wrote these dramatic, dark pieces at the end of his life, depicting a journey of the soul through a wintery landscape of sadness, beauty, elation, and despair.

Richmond Main Street will be hosting the Art In Windows and Downtown Champions Video Project Reception at East Bay Center on Monday, November 21. The event will begin at 5:00 PM with a tour of the art work and the reception will follow at 6:00 PM. The Downtown Champions Video Project, which was produced by East Bay Center and Richmond Main Street, will be screened during the reception. The Downtown Champions Video Project explores the contributions of Fred D. Jackson, Janet Johnson, Bennie Singleton, Betty Soskin and Joanne King - longtime supporters and advocates of downtown Richmond.

The evening will include a very special performance by Edgardo Cambon and Candela (the Premiere Bay Area Salsa Band!), the Richmond Jazz Collective (with special guest Valerie Troutt), the Richmond Bloco Steel Band, Kpanlogo Drumming, and special guest DJ Joshua Hollander. ENCUENTRO DEL SON, A MEXICAN RURAL FANDANGO
East Bay Center’s son jarocho community hosts a California-style Mexican rural Fandango celebrating the opening of the restored Winters Building. The Fandango (an event at which people compose/recite poetry, sing, play and dance son jarocho, a traditional Mexican art form) will feature guests from Mexico and provide an atmosphere of rural familial culture and shared joy. KONYIFAFA (WORLD PREMIERE)
Konyifafa is a full length commissioned dance theater work weaving together Classical West African Dance Drumming and Brazilian Capoeira. Created and Choreographed by two world renowned artists, Ghanaian Master Drummer and Dancer CK Ladzekpo and Brazilian Capoeira Master Ubirajara Almeida aka Mestre Accordeon. JAZZ HERITAGE CONCERT
East Bay Center welcomes back its own jazz alumni all stars featuring tenor saxophonist Howard Wiley for a unique presentation of his original work. Wiley is a recipient of the Thelonious Monk Scholarship, MVP award for the Grammy All-American Jazz Band, and the Downbeat Blues/Pop/Rock Instrumentalist award for best soloist. The Richmond Jazz Collective, an East Bay Center resident company, will open for Wiley. Tickets are: $15 per person, $10 Students and Seniors.

MIEN CEREMONIAL FEAST AND CULTURAL FESTIVAL
East Bay Center honors the vibrant local Mien/Southeast Asian community with an evening of authentic music, food, drink, and entertainment. The night will feature East Bay Center’s Mien Legends, and a special screening of the Lao Community Project documentary, which is a commissioned work of the Center’s Iron Triangle Legacy Project (a project which received major funding from the Koshland Program of the San Francisco Foundation and the Columbia Foundation). LA COLMENITA
La Colmenita, a childrens’ theater group from Cuba, will be performing “Abracadabra” as part of their national tour in the United States. East Bay Center premieres two original theater pieces commissioned through the Center’s Iron Triangle Legacy Project. Actor/comedian/writer Luis Santiago Juárez, along with the Center’s Iron Triangle Theater, will present a piece that explores race relations in Richmond. East Bay Center alumnus and renowned actress/comedian, Side 2 Side, will present a one-woman show that explores the history of the Iron Triangle neighborhood. Suggested donation: $10.
